|2 Days Forest Camp in Maamaint Cave (ID: VPK-TK-03)
Start-Finish: Vieng Phoukha town or Luang Namtha town
Duration: 2 days / 1 night
Departure: 9:00 AM daily from Vieng Phoukha; 8:00 from Luang Namtha town
Difficulty: Moderate, short hill climbs and descents walks up and down of hills
Overnight in a forest camp in the Nam Ha National Protected Area hosted by local people (Khmu ethnic groups). Test local food such as bamboo, leafs of different bushes etc. Trek through the “monkey forest”, visit caves and meet ethnic groups such as Akha, Hmong, Lahu and Khmu.
Day 1: Vieng Phoukha-Forest Camp in Maamaint Cave. Approx. 5-6 hours
9:00 am start by a Tuk Tuk around 20 minutes stop where you start trekking. On the way you will see your first ethnic village (Khmu), start walking through a little fields and an exciting with walking between through the steep rock and ascent and descent in the old growth forest in the Nam Ha National Protected Area after 3 hours of walking you will stop for picnic lunch on the trail before arrive Tah Long village (Khmu Kwean).
You will to visit them about 20 minute and continue through many kind of forest such as: forestry, bamboo grove, and jungle forest. On the way you will an exciting with many kinds of bird sound (Non timber forest product). Around 3 am you will finish for first day trekking at the Maamaint cave (Khmu ethnic name) area that around by old growth forest stay overnight camp near the cave, wait for guide prepare local food with bamboo, you will an exciting with to watch secretly the wildlife come to earn a living at night with the guide. Day 2: Forest Camp in Maamaint Cave-Vieng Phoukha. Approx. 5 hours
Rising early, you may be able to see or hear the sounds of the black-cheeked gibbon, monkey, forest chicken, after already preparing you thing and breakfast you will start trekking through inside the Maamaint cave about 30 minute and continue ascent and descent to Ban Ban Seng Pang (Khmu Village) visit them about 20 minutes and continue walking on the rough road.
A pleasant and easy walk passing through scenery of Limestone Mountains, bamboo forest and upland rice fields and picnic lunch on the trail. The pick-up awaits the group on the other side of the road and takes you to the Prasat cave. The limestone cave and continue by pick-up to visit Ban Tha Luang (Hmong village) and continue to Ban Nam Kap Nuea (Lahu village) is the final stop on this tour before returning to Vieng Phuukha in the afternoon. There should be enough time in the day to travel onwards to the Thai border at Huay Xai if you choose. [Meals: Breakfast, Lunch].

Remark: the trip start from Luang Namtha town charge more 200,000 Kip or 25 US$ per trip for transport from Luang Namtha-Vieng Phoukha around 60 km.
When packing for a trek, keep it simple. The less luggage you have to carry around, the more you will enjoy yourself. Wear a good pair of running shoes or lightweight trekking shoes.

The hike can be strenuous, therefore suitable for people in good physical condition. Expect to walk 5-6 hours during the second day of the program, and 5 hours on first day.
Jungle camp accommodation: hosted by Akha people with most camp basic made by banana leaf or use tents if necessity. Sleeping bags, foam mats and mosquito nets are supplied.
Jungle forest camp itinerary is a basic guideline only and subject to change.
All jungle forest camp areas are supervised by Laos Tourism Administration, which means all areas are frequented by tourists.
