Trip Overview Akha in Vieng Phoukha
Akha trek mean trekking to visit and stay overnight in the Akha village and trek though other ethnic groups in different villages as Hmong and Lahu, visit waterfall and for the second day have lunch with Lahu traditional on the trail.

Itinerary
Day 1: Vieng Phoukha-Ban Tah Soom
Start from our office by minivan or Tuk Tuk stop at the Ban Nam Kap Nuea (Lahu Village) 15 minutes for visit them and continue the same Tuk Tuk about 15 minutes to Ban Tha Luang (Hmong Village) local guide from the village will join your group and start walking.

The trek leads up to the mountain and deep into the forest, you will be able to see many different kinds of NTP’s (Non Timber Forest Products) in the Nam Ha National Protected Area, your guide share his experience about traditional medicine with you after about 3 hours, stop for lunch with traditional food.

After lunch, 3 hours walking pass some excellent view landscape of the Nam Ha Protected Area and arrive in the Ban Tah Soom (Akha Village) finished for the first day.

While your local hosts preparing your dinner, you can walk around the village to see and learn the village daily life, after dinner you will receive Akha women massage, which is traditionally given to guests.

Day 2: Ban Tah Soom-Vieng Phoukha
After enjoy traditional Akha breakfast around 8:30 am, start walk up and down to the waterfall 30 minutes break here for take bath if you want, continue to the small buffalo farm (Lahu people’s farm), walk through the upland agriculture field and then break for lunch with Lahu traditional on the trail. After lunch walk one and half hours to Ban Nam Kab Nuea. There should be enough time in the day to travel onwards to the Thai border at Huay Xai if you choose.

Trekking Price

Remark: the trip start from Luang Namtha town charge more 200,000 Kip or 25 US$ per trip for transport from Luang Namtha-Vieng Phoukha around 60 km.

Additional trip information
When packing for a trek, keep it simple. The fewer luggages you have to carry around, the more you will enjoy yourself. Wear a good pair of running shoes or lightweight trekking shoes. Bring a small backpack which should contain following items:
  • 2 T-shirts (cotton), one short or long pants.
  • 2 pair of socks. Sandals, flip-flop (for the evening in village).
  • Towel (or sarong), swimming suits, toilet and personal effects.
  • Personal prescription drugs, contact lenses, glasses.
  • Sun-cream (waterproof), hat, sunglasses. Mosquito repellent.
  • 1 long sleeves sweater and pants, or jogging suits.
  • Small flashlight, camera and films.
During the cold season (December and January) add a fleece and long pants to your pack as temperatures can drop fairly low at night in the mountain.

The hike can be strenuous, therefore suitable for people in good physical condition. Expect to walk 5-6 hours during the second day of the program, and 5 hours on first day.

Village accommodation: participants must be aware that there are no western-style toilets and washing facilities. Sleeping is on a bamboo floor, dormitory style. Sleeping bags, foam mats and mosquito nets are supplied.

Note:
Trekking itinerary is a basic guideline only and subject to change. All trekking areas are supervised by Laos Tourism Administration, which means all areas are frequented by tourists.
